• Two-Stage Implant Reconstruction

This process is very common nowadays for implant-based reconstruction of breasts. It comprises of two stages. It is designed especially for the person who has no skin left after the mastectomy. For this procedure, the tissue expander is used. The first stage involves the placing of a tissue expander. The tissue expander is basically a pouch, made up of silicone, which is used for assembling of a small valve in the front wall. This valve is filled like a balloon, with saline water.

The second stage comes some months later, after with abundant rest, in which the tissue expander is removed with saline or silicone implant. The placement of tissue expander is beneath the chest muscle with skin over it. The first stage also involves expanding the implant pocket to make room for the desired sized implant. The size should match the existing breast. This procedure requires maximum 2hrs. Thepost-op care in this procedure differs from others, as refraining from physical work, heavy lifting etc. for 3weeks. The patient also needs to stay overnight after the surgery.
